My Mariah Favorites

MARIAH ALBUM

I'm often asked what my favorite Mariah album is. That's hard for me to distinguish because I love all of them. But, I would definitely lean towards the Butterfly album. I have chosen Butterfly because it is comprised of songs that I was familiar with in her albums prior to the chosen one and it included a new R&B style that I truly adore. I love the collaborations that she did in Honey and Beautiful Ones. The Butterfly album definitely garnered versatility. I believe it reflected what she personally went through in her life. It captured her past experiences and feelings. For example, the song Butterfly showed listeners that she was emerging from her cocoon into a more more independent, beautiful woman inside and out. I love listening to Breakdown, Babydoll and Outside because the messages/lyrics that she sings are so readily experienced by many. You can actually hear the emotion in her voice. I interpretated the whole album as a way for her to ventilate her feelings and share her thoughts and experiences with the rest of the world. The album helped humanize her even more, which is why I chose it over the rest.

MARIAH SONG

Every song of Mariah's carries a special message of hope and joy. Although I love each and every one of her songs in their own special way, there are two that I consider to be my favorites and that I love listening to. The first song is Anytime You Need A Friend. I love this song because the message of friendship is brought forth. I love each and every word that is sung from Anytime You Need A Friend and her strong vocal ability is heard amongst the choir.

My second choice is Through The Rain, her recent single. When I first heard it on the radio, I felt very emotional because of the heartfelt message of hope and inspiration she conveyed. Through The Rain has personally helped me gather courage as I move on in my life. The song has affected me because my sister was in the Twin Towers on September 11th. Thank God she made it out alive! But, it just hit so close to home with my family and I. Knowing that I had to move on and be resilient after the aftermath, I listened to the many songs of Mariah, such as Hero, Make It Happen and Twister, to make me feel better and stronger so that I could face all of the days to come. Then when Through The Rain came out, I just felt more at ease. Listening to Through The Rain gives me hope and confidence as I move ahead in my nursing career.

MARIAH ALBUM COVER

While all of Mariah's album covers are beautiful as the eye can see, there are two that are my favorite. Those two covers are from her Butterfly album and her upcoming album, Charmbracelet.

What I love about the Butterfly album cover is that it has warm, brown and gold tones, from her hair to her oufit, which are relaxing. I love the Charmbracelet cover because she's telling the world that the music in the album is all about her. She's inviting everyone to get upclose and personal with her through her music. It signifies her beauty - from her face to her music. Both album covers are simple, yet breath-taking and says alot.

MARIAH VIDEO

My favorite videos are Heartbreaker and Breakdown. I love Heartbreaker because it is funny, it fits so well with the lyrics, and showcases Mariah's comedic and diva side. The scene at a movie theater where Mariah acts as herself and doubles as Bianca, her alter-ego, couldn't have been any better. The fight scene was halarious and I give Mariah (and Bianca) 3 cheers for an enjoyable, well-scripted video. I love watching Breakdown because I love the song and it has a cool, classy feel to it. The video goes along great with the music. I love the casino vibe, the dancing, the costumes and everything else. I believe it's one of Mariah's best videos.

MARIAH LOVE SONG

Yours is the fourth track off of Mariah's new album Charmbracelet, which was released December 3, 2002. I chose the song Yours because it is sentimental and contains feelings of love, belonging, devotion and happiness. It definitely could be used as a wedding song or Valentine's Day. Mariah's voice brings true emotion and meaning to the song. It would be great if she made a video for it. Yours is a song that you can share with someone special on any given day. As the song goes: "I believe in miracles, baby I'm forever yours."
