MARIAH EXTENDS WORLD TOUR

Mariah Carey has extended plans for her world tour, with new West Coast dates set through Dec. 22 in Costa Mesa, Calif. Beforehand, Carey will also visit Shanghai and Manila in mid-November. The artist plays London's Wembley Arena tonight (Oct. 30) and will be in Europe through Nov. 7 in Milan.

Carey's outing got off to rocky start this summer, when a planned arena tour was downgraded to theaters. But the shows have gone off without incident since then and have done solid business; 15 concerts reported to Billboard Boxscore have grossed about $4.2 million and have played to 78% capacity.

The artist has reached out to her fans, allowing them to request songs via her official Web site. Fans can now choose one song ("One Sweet Day," "Love Takes Time," "Vision of Love" or "Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)") to be added each night to the remaining shows.

FOR-GET IT

We heard Mariah Carey's possible bio was canceled because her supposedly high-handed new manager, Benny Medina, formerly Jennifer Lopez's Svengali, supposedly outdiva'd Mariah and pulled her out of the deal. Three words. For-get it.
Morrow's book people put it differently. They're whispering she - coming from the Woody Allen school of negotiating - wanted $5 mil. When that wasn't happening, she slid to $3 mil. When that wasn't happening and the number was stabilizing at something maybe near $500,000 maybe, things got icky. Also sticky. The more it was talked about, the less enthusiastic the publishers got. They realized she wouldn't be revealing anything revealing, they realized they needed a writer, they realized nothing they were hearing was worth that money.
So - and they and he and she will deny this - Benny Medina saved the day p.r.-wise by making it seem he was the heavy in the deal and taking the fall publicly.

DEF LEPPARD COMMENTS ON "Bringin' On The Heartbreak"

"...Considering his not-so-latent pop side, it's not surprising Collen is all for Mariah Carey's recent revival of Def Leppard's Bringin' on the Heartbreak (from 1981's High 'n' Dry) - a cover some fans have considered an act of high treason.

"You get e-mails from fans, and they go, 'It's disgusting, it's terrible.' I said, 'No - you've got to realize that she's on our side. Someone's actually out there promoting one of our songs. You should give her all the help she can get.'

"Ultimately, it's just a great honour for us (if) anyone does that - and does a real genuine version, not recording the song and making fun of the band, like the Michael Jackson thing by Alien Ant Farm (Smooth Criminal). With Mariah it was a genuine version of our song. I actually think that's a huge compliment."..."

VH-1's ULTIMATE ALBUMS: BUTTERFLY

VH1's "Ultimate Albums: Butterfly" premier air date is scheduled TBA.  Ultimate Albums is the inside stories of the records we all love. It's an hour-long series that examines a single important record in each episode, recounting in detail why it connected the artist and the audience, how it forever changed their lives and our culture, and tells the powerful real stories of the music world's greatest works and how they were transformed from riffs and lyrics to musical legacies.

'Butterfly' happens to be my favorite Mariah album, which you'll see in my Mariah favorites.  I'm so proud that it has been chosen as an ultimate album.

MARIAH VOTED AS MTV2'S GREATEST VOICE!

The honors keep coming for Mariah - now she has been named MTV2's greatest voice. Mariah recently picked up a Lifetime Achievement prize at the Soul Train Awards and has also been entered into the Guinness Book of Records for having the highest voices in pop.
And now, she has beaten off Freddie Mercury and Whitney Houston to claim MTV2 honors. But the list isn't a true reflection on the history of pop as it only features artists who have had hit records in the past 20 years.
